Concrete Polishing and Grinding in East Auckland

Diamond Shine Concrete delivers professional concrete polishing across East Auckland, from coastal suburbs like Beachlands and Whitford through to established residential areas in Howick, Pakuranga, and Mission Bay.

East Auckland properties range from waterfront homes needing durable, low-maintenance flooring to older residential builds ready for a renovation upgrade. Polished concrete is a natural fit for this part of Auckland - the finish handles sandy feet, pet traffic, and daily wear without the maintenance that timber or carpet demands. Many East Auckland homeowners discover that the concrete slab under their existing flooring can be transformed into something far better than what was covering it.

We have completed a range of East Auckland projects including architectural renovation corrections in Beachlands, occupied-home refurbishments in Howick, pool surround restorations in Whitford, and non-slip garage conversions in Mission Bay. Each project required a different approach - from high-gloss Hiperfloor finishes to safety-focused matte grinds - but every job gets the same attention to preparation, dust control, and edge detailing.

If you are planning concrete polishing in East Auckland, get in touch for a free site assessment. We will check the slab condition and give you a firm quote with no hidden costs.

We recently engaged Diamond Shine Concrete to carry out a full concrete grinding and polishing job on the ground floor of our house, and the experience exceeded all expectations from start to finish. From the very first interaction, they were responsive, knowledgeable, and transparent. They took the time to assess the condition of our existing concrete, explain the various finish options, and recommend the best approach based on our usage needs and aesthetic goals. Their quote was detailed and competitive, with no hidden costs or surprises. Execution was flawless. The crew arrived on time each day, well-equipped and ready to work. They meticulously prepared the surface, addressing minor cracks and imperfections before beginning the grinding process. Dust control was excellent, something we were initially concerned about, and they kept the house clean and safe at all times. The final result is absolutely stunning. The polished concrete has transformed the space, giving it a sleek, modern look while also being incredibly durable and easy to maintain. What really stood out was their attention to detail and pride in their work. They didn't cut corners, and they ensured that when they were finished, we were totally satisfied.

Highly recommend. The team was professional, punctual, and extremely detail-oriented. The finished floor looks absolutely amazing - smooth, glossy, and flawless. They kept the site clean and completed the job on time. Very impressed with the quality of workmanship. Will definitely use them again.

Diamond Shine Concrete was the real deal in concrete grinding, hardening and polishing. Not only was the quote accurate, the care and attention given to my floors was like it was their own home. Providing exceptional advice and service, I cannot recommend this team highly enough.

Amie Maxwell

Diamond Shine Concrete did an absolutely amazing job restoring my 24 year old concrete floor. I was a little hesitant to use them as I couldn't find many online reviews and they are a young company but, after a couple of site visits from Bowie and a visit to check out one of their previous commercial jobs, I went ahead with them and I am so glad that I did. My house is a modern minimalist style with inset skirting boards. I was concerned that the grinding and polishing machines would do damage to them but the job was completed with no damage whatsoever which was incredible. The old damaged seal was removed, cracks filled, the floor ground back to show the aggregate and a satin sheen achieved. Bowie and team promptly came back out to my house and ran a polisher over the floors again, removed the remaining swirls for me, leaving the most beautiful finish. The concrete floor came up way beyond my expectations and has definitely increased the value of my home. This company came in with the best quote, the best availability, turned up on time, and took such care and attention to detail. I can't recommend them highly enough.

We are so happy with our finished polished floors, we can't really fault anything - Pricing, Timing, professionalism and aftercare recommendations of how to take care of our floor. It all adds up to completing a job well done, we would recommend Diamond Shine Concrete to everyone!

Kelly Gov

We had Diamond Shine Concrete Polishing (Bowie and Andy) polish and seal our 48 sqm garage floor as part of a garage conversion, and we couldn't be happier with the result. The finished floor looks spectacular and cost us less than most other flooring options we were quoted, which was a huge bonus. Bowie and Andy didn't mess around. They got straight into it, worked hard all day, and had the job completed within a single day. Their pricing was very competitive compared to other quotes we received, and what really stood out was how detailed and transparent their quote was. It clearly outlined what was included, gave a basic overview of the process, and set realistic expectations, which we really appreciated. Highly recommend Diamond Shine Concrete Polishing if you're looking for a high-quality, cost-effective flooring solution with great workmanship and a professional, no-nonsense approach.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

How much does polished concrete cost?

The cost of polished concrete in Auckland depends on floor size, slab condition, and finish type. Most jobs fall between $60 and $130 per m2 + GST. Larger open areas (200m2+) can come in around $60 per m2, while detailed work in finished homes can reach $120-$130 per m2. We have a minimum charge of $2,250 + GST for small areas under 20m2. For a full breakdown by floor size and finish type, see our polished concrete pricing guide. Contact us for a free site assessment and accurate quote.

What happens with cracks, damage or control joint while my concrete is getting ground and polished?

Cracks:

Small cracks can be filled with a specially formulated color-matched patch filler to create a seamless surface.

For larger cracks, a more extensive repair may be needed, such as cutting out the damaged section and patching it with new concrete.

Damage:

Surface damage, such as chips or scratches, can be repaired using patching compounds or fillers designed for concrete.

Deeper damage may require more extensive repairs, such as grinding down the surface to remove the damaged area and then patching it with new concrete.

Joints:

Control joints, which are intentional cuts in the concrete to control cracking, will be filled with a  specially formulated color-matched patch filler to prevent the edges chipping while grinding. These can be later recut at the discretion or left in depending on the movement of the concrete.

Expansion joints, which allow for the natural movement of the concrete, can also be filled with a flexible material to maintain a smooth surface.

It's important to address cracks, damage, and joints before polishing to ensure a uniform and high-quality finish. Your polishing professional can assess the condition of your concrete floor and recommend the best approach for repairing and preparing it for polishing.

What areas do you service in Auckland?

Diamond Shine Concrete services all of Auckland, including Central Auckland, the North Shore, East Auckland, West Auckland, and South Auckland. We travel across the region for both residential and commercial jobs. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, just get in touch - we're happy to help.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes. We offer free site visits and quotes across Auckland. We prefer to see the floor in person before quoting - this lets us assess the concrete condition, recommend the right finish, and give you an accurate price with no surprises. Get in touch to book yours.

What is the difference between honed and polished concrete?

Polished concrete is ground and refined to a high sheen using progressively finer diamond tooling, resulting in a glossy, reflective surface. Honed concrete follows the same grinding process but stops at a lower grit level, leaving a smooth, matte finish with little to no reflectivity. Honed is popular for residential interiors and bathrooms where a warmer, less industrial look is preferred. Both are durable and low-maintenance.

Do you work on both residential and commercial floors?

Yes. Diamond Shine Concrete handles both residential and commercial projects across Auckland. On the residential side, we work on new builds, renovations, and existing slabs in homes of all sizes. Commercially, we service retail stores, offices, warehouses, industrial facilities, and automotive workshops. The process and equipment vary by project type - we tailor our approach to suit the space and the finish required.

Can you polish a floor that has been previously sealed or coated?

In most cases, yes. If your floor has an existing sealer, polyurethane, epoxy, or other coating, we can grind it back to expose the raw concrete beneath and start the polishing process from scratch. The condition of the concrete underneath determines what finish is achievable. We assess this on a site visit before quoting so you know exactly what to expect.

What is polished concrete?

Polished concrete is a process that involves grinding and polishing a concrete surface to achieve a smooth, glossy finish. It is commonly used as a flooring option in both residential and commercial spaces.

What are the benefits of polished concrete?

Some benefits of polished concrete include its durability, low maintenance requirements, and aesthetic appeal. It is also environmentally friendly and can help improve indoor air quality.

Can any concrete be polished?

In general, most concrete can be polished. However, the quality of the final result can depend on factors such as the quality of the concrete mix, the level of aggregate exposure desired, and the condition of the existing concrete surface.

How long does it take to polish concrete?

The time it takes to polish concrete can vary depending on the size and complexity of the area, the level of polishing desired, and the condition of the concrete. In general, the process can take anywhere from a few days to a week or more.
